After making two stops in Tampa in 2013, the Hooked Monster Truck team returned for their first visit of 2014 to Raymond James Stadium as they were set to compete against a strong field of Monster Jam’s toughest talent. The weekend before in San Antonio was a good outing for driver Bryan Wright as he returned to action for the first time since the summer of 2013. With the truck in great shape, Wright and the Hooked team were ready for the challenge ahead Saturday night.
The usually warm Tampa was a little chilly Saturday, with temperatures dipping down into the 40′s, but that didn’t stop thousands of Monster Jam fans from coming to see their favorite trucks and drivers in the pit party. Wright and Hooked hung out with the fans all day before the event in the evening. Once the sun set, and the lights came down in the stadium it was time for Monster Jam action.
Round One of racing matched Wright and Hooked against a good friend and familiar face, Scott Hartsock and the Gun Slinger. The always tough Hartsock was able to pull off the round one victory against Wright and Hooked to end their racing efforts early. Wright would come back in freestyle though and fire up the crowd with a great performance early on. Highlights included some big air leaps over the jack rabbit, a great walking wheelie over the racing lane, and Wright even took out a massive camper with Hooked. The crowd applauded Wright’s efforts with a strong run to get the crowd on their feet.
Next up for the Hooked Monster Truck team is the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida next Saturday. Be sure to keep up with the team online by liking the official Hooked Monster Truck Facebook page here.
For the second straight weekend the Hooked Monster Truck team would be in the state of Texas as the team traveled to San Antonio for two big events at the Alamodome on the weekend. After a stellar outing the week prior for Steven Sims, the driver’s seat would be turned over to teammate Bryan Wright this weekend as Steven headed back to school at East Carolina University. It would be Hooked’s first ever visit to San Antonio, giving Wright and the team a chance to make an impression on a new audience.
The weekend started off on Saturday with the first of two events. Wright turned in a solid performance in his first time behind the wheel in several months. A tough draw against reigning World Finals Racing Champion Adam Anderson and Grave Digger The Legend would end his racing efforts early with a round one defeat to the champion. Freestyle saw Wright as one of the early leaders with a score of 18 with a good run to get the crowd going.
With little time to get the truck ready for the second stadium event in two days, the crew worked hard and had Hooked ready to go for the Sunday afternoon event. Wright gained over a second on his qualifying time from the night before, but that gain in speed wasn’t quite enough in racing against Wolverine as Wright would be eliminated early in round one. Hooked would get the freestyle action going early as one of the first competitors on the floor once again, and pumped up the fans with a good run getting some nice air in his performance.
From Texas, the team heads to one of their favorite stops, Tampa, Florida’s Raymond James Stadium. The team will spend a majority of the season competing in the Sunshine State in some of the biggest Monster Jam events on the schedule.
After a successful 2013 campaign for the Hooked Monster Truck team, with plenty of stellar performances and gaining the support of many great new sponsors along the way, the 2014 season has been met with great anticipation and high expectations. The first stop for Steven Sims and the Hooked Monster Truck team would be Houston, Texas’ Reliant Park. On Friday the Texans ushered in a new era with the announcing of their new head coach, on Saturday Sims would begin a new chapter in his career as well with his first major stadium Monster Jam event. Thousands of fans took to the floor of Reliant Park to meet their favorite drivers during the pit party prior to the event Saturday.
