For the second straight weekend the Hooked Monster Truck team would be in the state of Texas as the team traveled to San Antonio for two big events at the Alamodome on the weekend. After a stellar outing the week prior for Steven Sims, the driver’s seat would be turned over to teammate Bryan Wright this weekend as Steven headed back to school at East Carolina University. It would be Hooked’s first ever visit to San Antonio, giving Wright and the team a chance to make an impression on a new audience.
The weekend started off on Saturday with the first of two events. Wright turned in a solid performance in his first time behind the wheel in several months. A tough draw against reigning World Finals Racing Champion Adam Anderson and Grave Digger The Legend would end his racing efforts early with a round one defeat to the champion. Freestyle saw Wright as one of the early leaders with a score of 18 with a good run to get the crowd going.
With little time to get the truck ready for the second stadium event in two days, the crew worked hard and had Hooked ready to go for the Sunday afternoon event. Wright gained over a second on his qualifying time from the night before, but that gain in speed wasn’t quite enough in racing against Wolverine as Wright would be eliminated early in round one. Hooked would get the freestyle action going early as one of the first competitors on the floor once again, and pumped up the fans with a good run getting some nice air in his performance.
From Texas, the team heads to one of their favorite stops, Tampa, Florida’s Raymond James Stadium. The team will spend a majority of the season competing in the Sunshine State in some of the biggest Monster Jam events on the schedule.
