For the first time ever Hooked would make the trip to the Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Virginia. It would be the only Monster Truck Throwdown stop for the team in 2018 and with it being a near hometown event for Bryan Wright he was amped up and ready to thrill the fans. With two events on tap they would put together a pair of great performances against a tough field of competitors.
Friday night kicked off with a pair of great wheelies from Wright and Hooked as they got nearly vertical on both attempts. It was a good effort, but Wright was barely edged out by teammate Steve Sims and Stone Crusher. Wright and Hooked were hooked up in racing on the two jump straightline track. After a quick qualifying pass Wright moved his way through the bracket to the final round to face off against up and comer Cory Snyder and Toxic. From the start Wright got the early lead and never looked back as he defeated Snyder by just over a truck length to take the racing win. To close out the night Wright would put on a big air spectacle in freestyle with some huge jumps from Hooked to get the fans on their feet.
After some overnight repair work on Hooked and Stone Crusher the team was ready for the Saturday night event. Brief rain showers before the event made the track a little slippery but the drivers battled through it and still put on another awesome event. Despite the slick conditions in the wheelie contest Wright managed to pull of a pair of sky high sky wheelies that challenged for the win, but didn’t quite score high enough. In round one Hooked dealt with too much wheel spin off the starting line and would fall out of the racing bracket early with a loss. After the early racing exit, Wright bounced back with a wild freestyle run that finished with a broken left front wheel but it was good enough for the victory.
That would be a wrap on a great weekend of shows with Monster Truck Throwdown at Virginia Motorsports Park. Thanks to all the fans who came out and cheered us on. We hope to be back next year. Also a big thanks to all of our sponsors for their support.
