For the first time ever the Hooked Monster Truck team visited GALOT Motorsports Park for a two show weekend with the Monster Truck Throwdown tour. The top notch facility played host to 8 top level monster trucks on a long but narrow course that put the trucks to the test all weekend. The native Carolinian behind the wheel in Bryan Wright was only a few hours from home and looking to bring home some hardware on the weekend and he would do just that in spectacular fashion.
The first night of competition took place Friday where Wright and Hooked got off to a strong start. A pair of awesome sky wheelies would score high with the judges and eventually put him into a cheer off for the win against the Crushstation. The nod would go to Crushstation but second place was a great start to the night. Next up would be racing where Wright had Hooked rolling fast as they worked their way into the final round and eventually taking the racing win. They weren’t done just yet as freestyle was yet to come, and Wright let it all hang out in his run. It would be an action packed two minutes with huge air thoughout the performance before an off camber jump over the cars pitched the truck over hard to the left and onto the roof with a wild rollover. The truck would be okay with mostly cosmetic damage. While the rollover wasn’t what Wright was hoping for his hard work paid off as they would get the freestyle win on Friday night.
The body on Hooked was too damaged to repair overnight so the truck would take on a new look for the night on Saturday as it would be bodyless. Wright once again got some great wheelies to open up the competition but once again didn’t get the win. Racing got off to a much rougher start though, as Hooked would lose a transmission in racing which sidelined the truck for the rest of the competition. The crew got to work in a hurry and managed to change out the transmission quickly and were back out for freestyle. It would be another rocking freestyle from Wright with some more big air under Hooked before an electrical issue finally brought the truck to a stop. Wright wouldn’t get the win on this night, but he would come up just short behind teammate Steve Sims and the Stone Crusher.
A big thanks to the crew for all their hard work in Benson keeping both the Stone Crusher and Hooked running hard all weekend. We hope to be back at GALOT Motorsports Park with Monster Truck Throwdown in 2017!
