For many fans the Sims name is a household name, as his father has created a strong reputation and following with the Stone Crusher monster truck. With his father being a five-time Monster Jam World Finals competitor with a number of wins in his resume, you can imagine expectations would be high for young Steven. Not only has he lived up to the hype, he’s surpassed the expectations of many. Sims got his first chance behind the wheel at just 14 years old in 2009 after field testing the Stone Crusher behind the team shop in Virginia Beach. Following his first field tests, Sims cut his teeth in hill and hole mud racing behind the wheel of his truck Young Mud. In 2010, Sims piloted a converted monster truck flying the Young Mud name to an impressive victory at Dennis Anderson’s Muddy Motorsports Park’s annual North vs. South event. At just 16 years old Sims quickly made a name for himself, proving to the rest of the world he was a natural behind the wheel.
In May of 2012, Sims would make his official Monster Truck driving debut with an all new name and look for the Monster Trucks Unlimited team, Hooked. The off shore fishing themed Cadillac Escalade was an instant hit with the hometown crowd, and Sims piloted the truck to an impressive debut during an exhibition freestyle pass during Monsters on the Beach. Over the next few months, Sims would get more opportunities behind the wheel of Hooked, competing against some of the sport’s toughest competition on some of the most grueling courses. Sims shined in his time behind the wheel before starting his Freshman year at East Carolina University. After some time off due to school, Sims got back behind the wheel in February to compete with Monster Jam and get some seat time before competing in the Young Guns Shootout. The time off didn’t phase him, as he proved why the hype was justified for this rising star. At the Young Guns Shootout Sims was competitive throughout the weekend turning in the third fastest qualifying time his first weekend on the course. One thing is certain, the future looks bright for Steven Sims.
